The main source of irrigation in Pakistan is vast canal system but available surface water is inadequate to meet crop water requirements. Many techniques have been developed to utilize available limited water supplies. These include sprinkler and drip irrigation systems, out of which later is the most efficient method for supplying not only water but other non water inputs directly to rooting zone of the plants.
These irrigation technologies use pipes for conveyance of water from the source to points of utilization. The drip irrigation system is becoming increasingly popular amongst farmers in USA, Australia, China, Middle East, India etc.
In drip irrigation method, water is applied to the soil through chambered tapes or tubes called laterals connected with emitters. They are commonly placed on the ground or are buried in the soil at a shallow depth (subsurface). The system normally requires an operating pressure of 30 to 45 PSI and a discharge rate of about 1 to 10 Liter/hour.
We have installed drip, bubblers, impact sprinkler and Rain gun system on total land more than 1700 Acres in most of the sectors of Province KPK and Punjab.
We have been installing these systems with World Bank funding. Most of farmers are happy to get these systems without paying any cost and some of the farmers are paying only 20% of the system cost.
We have a plan in near future to develop rain guns and impact sprinklers indigenously. We are sure that we will provide you rain guns and sprinklers ranging from minimum to maximum covering radius.
